1. WHO WE ARE
Between the Lines is the trading name of Velvet Verse Ltd (company number 16995759), a company registered in England and Wales, and the operator of betweenthelines.space (the 'Platform'). We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
Registered address available on request. Contact: hi@betweenthelines.space.
This Platform is UK-based and global-facing. We apply UK GDPR and EU GDPR standards to all personal data we process, regardless of where you are located, and we have had regard to other applicable data protection laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), where relevant.
2. DATA WE COLLECT
We collect only limited personal data, specifically:
- Newsletter sign-up: your email address, where you choose to subscribe.
- Correspondence: your name, email address, and the content of any message, where you contact us directly.
- Analytics and advertising data (optional): device, browser, and usage information collected via Google Analytics and, where enabled, Meta Pixel. This category is described fully in the Cookies section below and is only collected where you consent.
We do not otherwise store personal data submitted to the Platform. We do not currently process payments directly; purchases are completed through third-party services such as Amazon KDP, and in future may include a payment processor such as [INSERT: payment provider once decided], each of which processes payment data under their own privacy terms.
3. LAWFUL BASIS FOR PROCESSING
- Newsletter emails: your consent, given at the point of sign-up.
- Responding to correspondence: our legitimate interest in operating the Platform and communicating with visitors who contact us.
- Analytics and advertising cookies: your consent, given via cookie preferences. Where consent is not given, these technologies are not activated.
4. HOW WE USE YOUR DATA
We use the data described above to:
- send newsletter communications you have subscribed to;
- respond to enquiries and correspondence;
- understand how visitors use the Platform, where analytics consent is given;
- maintain the security and proper functioning of the Platform.
We do not use your personal data for any purpose beyond those stated above without seeking further consent where required.
5. COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. We use the following categories:
Strictly necessary
Technologies required for the Platform to function, including your saved light or dark mode preference (stored via browser local storage rather than a cookie). These do not require consent.
Analytics (optional, consent-based)
Google Analytics, used to understand how visitors use the Platform. This is only activated with your consent and can be withdrawn at any time.
Advertising (optional, consent-based)
Meta Pixel, used where enabled for advertising measurement purposes. This is only activated with your consent.
Third-party embeds
Social share buttons may set cookies belonging to the relevant social platform when used. These are governed by the third party's own cookie and privacy policies.
Managing your preferences
You can manage or withdraw cookie consent at any time through your browser settings or, where a cookie consent tool is in use on the Platform, through the preferences panel it provides. If you are a California resident, you may exercise your right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal data through advertising cookies by declining analytics and advertising cookies as described above ('Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information').
6. SHARING YOUR DATA
We share limited data with:
- Google (Analytics), where analytics consent is given;
- Meta (Pixel), where advertising consent is given;
- Amazon KDP, when you follow a purchase link from the Platform;
- a payment processor, once implemented, for the purpose of completing transactions.
We do not sell your personal data.
7. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS
Where data is transferred outside the UK or EU, including to the service providers listed above, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or Standard Contractual Clauses, or an applicable adequacy decision.
8. DATA RETENTION
We retain newsletter sign-up data for as long as you remain subscribed, and correspondence data for as long as reasonably necessary to address your enquiry and maintain a record of it. You may request deletion at any time, as set out in Section 9.
9. YOUR RIGHTS
Under UK and EU GDPR, you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- request correction of inaccurate data;
- request erasure of your data;
- object to or restrict our processing of your data;
- request portability of your data;
- withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent;
- lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) or your local supervisory authority.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hi@betweenthelines.space.
10. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
The Platform is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so that we can remove it.
11. MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS
We only send marketing communications, such as newsletter emails, where you have consented to receive them. You may unsubscribe at any time.
12. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The 'Last Updated' date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
